Nashik Sees Significant Improvement in Air Quality After Rainfall

Nashik, a city in Maharashtra, India, has witnessed a remarkable improvement in its air quality. The Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped from 128 (moderate) on April 3 to 62 (satisfactory) following recent rainfall. This positive change is attributed to the rain settling airborne dust particles.

Specific areas in Nashik reported even better air quality:

  • Gangapur Road: AQI improved from 122 to 99
  • Pandav Nagari in Pathardi: AQI dropped from 137 to 37
  • Ambad MIDC: AQI decreased from 121 to 60
  • Hirawadi in Panchavati: AQI reduced from 132 to 52

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) considers AQI levels below 100 as satisfactory, posing minimal health risks.

To sustain and further enhance air quality, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is implementing various projects funded by the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).

With ₹89 crore received from the central government, NMC has already invested ₹55 crore in initiatives such as electric buses, EV charging infrastructure, waste recycling, electric crematoriums, and increased vegetation along roadsides. These efforts are expected to be completed within the next two years.

This improvement in air quality not only benefits the health of Nashik’s residents but also sets a positive example for other cities striving to combat pollution and promote sustainable urban living.
