## Liverpool’s turning part of a former hospital site into a new public park, right in the middle of the city. Instead of the usual concrete and traffic, the plan is to fill the area with trees, wildlife, and green spaces—basically a breath of fresh air for Liverpool.

## A New Green Space in the Heart of Liverpool

The work started in October 2026. They’re building the park where the Royal Liverpool University Hospital used to stand.

If everything goes as planned, people will be walking and cycling through the park by 2027—patients, hospital staff, locals, and visitors.

Everyone gets a chance to unwind and enjoy some real nature in the city.

## What’s Coming to the New Park?

So, what’s in the park?

You get:

- 163 new trees

- Native wildflower meadows

- Habitats that welcome birds, bees, butterflies—pretty much most local wildlife

- Paths for walking and cycling

- Places to chill out, reflect, and play

The designers chose native plants that support pollinators, making sure the park’s not just pretty, but actually helpful for animals.

There are paths for walking and cycling, places to chill out, reflect, play—whether you’re on your own or with friends.

## A Vertical Meadow Is Already Helping Wildlife

Even before the park officially opens, the team’s getting creative.

They’ve built a 33-meter vertical meadow around the construction site, packed with native grasses and wildflowers.

It gives bees, birds, and butterflies a place to land right now, not just later.

## Giving Unused City Land a New Purpose

City centres aren’t exactly famous for their green spaces.

That’s why this project feels important.

It’s part of a bigger plan to redevelop the Royal campus, with the NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group teaming up with BAM UK & Ireland, the Eden Project, Liverpool City Council, and the New Hospital Programme.

The idea isn’t just to plant some trees and call it a day—it’s about creating a spot where people can slow down, get outside, and reconnect with nature.

## A Living Landscape for People and Wildlife

It’s a good example of how to give old, unused city land a new purpose.

Liverpool’s not letting the former hospital just sit there—they’re turning it into a living landscape, where wildlife can thrive and people get a welcoming, natural place to spend time.

## More Trees, Wildlife, and Space to Breathe

By 2027, when the park’s finished, Liverpool will have something it really needs:

- More trees

- More wildlife

- A place in the middle of the city where people can just breathe and unwind for a bit.
