This park, called Unity Park, sits in the Roosevelt Park neighborhood and officially opened its gates on October 14, 2026. People who live nearby didn’t just get a new park; they helped shape what it looks like. Residents weighed in, shared their stories, and made sure the final design honors the history and culture of the area. ## A Welcoming Park for People of All Ages Unity Park is set up so anyone can find something to love. Maybe you want to relax in a hammock grove, sip coffee under shady trees, or hang out at the café-style seating. There’s also plenty of space for kids to play, a flexible spot for local vendors to set up, and gathering places where neighbors can just talk. It’s truly meant for everyone, not just families or young kids but folks of every age and ability. ## Preserving History Through Creative Park Design But it’s not just about new features—it’s about remembering what used to be here. The park actually sits where St. Joseph the Worker Church once stood, and the designers gave some of that old place new life. - The church’s steeple? Now it’s a bulletin kiosk. - Organ pipes? They’ve been rebuilt into a water sculpture. It’s a clever way to tie together past and present, helping people feel rooted in both. ## Green Spaces and Sustainable Features at Unity Park Unity Park also puts green space front and center. The rain garden and wide tree canopy aren’t just for looks—they bring some real environmental benefits and make things more comfortable on a hot day. Paths are laid out for bikes, the lighting is better, and there are drinking fountains with spots to fill bottles. These details make it easy for people to stick around and really enjoy the place. ## A Community Project Built Through Collaboration The park is a product of teamwork. The city didn’t do it alone—local groups, schools, nonprofits, and residents all pitched in. That kind of collaboration means Unity Park is exactly what people around here wanted. It’s a gathering space, a safe play area, a place to relax, and a way for old and new neighbors to connect. ## How Unity Park Is Transforming Roosevelt Park For Roosevelt Park, Unity Park is more than an upgrade; it’s a transformation. An underused lot now hums with activity and connection. > And really, that’s the point—parks like this help people feel like they belong. They let a city remember its history and build a better future, one shared space at a time.
